$\alpha =\frac{K_M^{\text{apparent}}}{K_M}=1+\frac{[I]}{K_I}$

• $K_M^{\text{apparent}}$ is the new $K_M$ after adding the inhibitor
• $K_M$ is the Michaelis constant
• $K_I$ is the dissociation constant for the free enzyme + inhibitor complex
• $\alpha =1$ means no inhibition
• $\alpha \to \infty$ means a lot of inhibition
